Myth of Er

Myth Of Er is the imprint of JHP, a London based photographer and sound artist. Myth Of Er is dedicated to the visual and sonic exploration of the intersection/blurring of sound/image, building blocks of imagination, memory, language, and ethics.

Utilizing Street Photography as a starting point, in which impression, dream and impulse interweave elliptically, poetics emerge to decipher mythological journeys of perception through the unconscious.

ME003 → 1324

As the pioneer of photography said, a photograph should only be accompanied by a date and the time the photograph was taken. So follows the title of this book: ‘1324’ – denoting both a date and an erroneous sequence of numerical values. The exact time is purposely missing as the images contained within do not show time, they show the end of it.

ME001 → inferno from an occult diary

“What is your greatest ambition in life?”

“To become immortal, and then die.”

‘Inferno From An Occult Diary’ includes photographs by JHP shot between 2019 and 2022, during a period of sustained global desolation.

Borrowing its’ title from a collection of stories by August Strindberg, it is a document of everything there is not, becoming everything that there is. An impersonal space infinitely perpetuating and exceeding itself, an autobiography of the elsewhere, in the here and now.

‘Inferno From An Occult Diary’ is a record of time becoming its’ own deconstruction and life its’ own afterlife.

And immortality?

A death without choice and without knowing the way.
